… as Mr. Abiodun Bodunrin Assumes Office as the new MD

The Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the West African Gas Pipeline, WAPCo, and the Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Gas has hailed the numerous achievements of WAPCo as he expressed his profound gratitude to the outgoing Managing Director, Ms. Michelle Burkett, through her visionary and exemplary leadership style throughout her years in the company.

Ms. Burkett, who assumed the role on January 1, 2023, has led WAPCo with distinction and purpose. During her tenure, the company achieved several key milestones, including surpassing 12 million workforce hours worked safely over 11 years, delivering record gas volumes, safely executing multiple critical projects, and attaining notable improvements in system reliability.

Hon.. Ekperikpe expressed this heartfelt gesture when the outgoing and incoming Managing Directors of West Africa Gas Pipeline Company, Ms. Michelle Burkett and Mr. Abiodun Bodunrin paid him a familiarization visit in his office.

“I would like to sincerely thank Ms. Michelle Burkett, the outgoing Managing Director, for her visionary leadership and the numerous achievements recorded during her tenure. I would also like to welcome Mr. Abiodun Bodunrin, the new Managing Director, and assure him of my full support as he works to deliver a reliable and uninterrupted gas supply from Nigeria to consumers through the West African Gas Pipeline project,” Ekpo stated.

The Honourable Minister further underscored the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's giant strides in advancing the gas sector over the past two years, marked by notable progress in developing gas infrastructure, reducing gas flaring, and increasing gas availability for both export and domestic consumption.

“Let me reiterate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's unwavering commitment to strengthening energy security in our subregion, with natural gas supply to Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana being a top priority to combat energy poverty and stimulate economic prosperity across West Africa,” He posited.

WAPCo has extended its sincere appreciation to Ms. Burkett for her exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment to safety, and strategic contributions to the Company’s mission. Mr. Abiodun Bodunrin appointment as the new Managing Director took effect on August 1, 2025.
