Engr. Dr. Vincent Onuegbu Izionworu FNSE, MNSChE, MNIEE, MIPE, MPLAN Chair NIPITECS Technical Sub-Committee /Program Director, stands as a beacon of excellence in the fields of material science and engineering. With over 20 years of dedicated experience, his career is marked by significant contributions to academia and industry, showcasing his unwavering commitment to advancing engineering practices and education.
In 2012, Dr. Izionworu began his academic journey as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering at Rivers State University. Today, he is a Senior Lecturer poised for promotion to Reader (Associate Professor). Throughout his more than a decade-long tenure in academia, he has collaborated with colleagues to train over 1,000 young engineers who have gone on to excel in plant design, operations, and project management. His mentorship extends to supervising Master of Technology and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) candidates, fostering research that addresses real-world engineering challenges.
Dr. Izionworu’s dedication to collaborative research is exemplified by his involvement with Professors in Asia in the Corrosion UMT-UKM-RSU-AISSMS 1+3 matching grant (vot 53432). His vision for practical, local content-driven research led him to initiate and lead the Rivers State University Faculty of Engineering Exhibition Committee, culminating in a groundbreaking workshop that brought together academia, industry stakeholders, and government agencies—including the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB)—to tackle local industry challenges.

Beyond academia, Dr. Izionworu’s expertise extends to his role as Consulting Coordinator for Technical Quality Assurance at B.G. Technical Limited (BGT). In 2013, he established and developed the procurement department at BGT and was instrumental in championing the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 Integrated Management Systems. His leadership has been pivotal in ensuring the integrity of pipelines and other oil and gas services, including Wireline Services, Pressure Pumping, and Pipeline Construction. He has worked on major projects with top industry players such as Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG), Oil Serv, TOTAL, NAOC, Seplat, Chevron, and Addax, among others.
Dr. Izionworu’s innovative mindset led him to collaborate with software developers to create an Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP) for BGT, enhancing project management both in Nigeria and the USA. He also initiated a quality management system review that facilitated BGT’s acquisition of an inline inspection tool, positioning the company as a Nigerian Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for intelligent pigging.
A strong academic foundation underpins Dr. Izionworu’s professional achievements. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Polymer and Textile Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Owerri in 2001, followed by a Master of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Rivers State University of Science and Technology in 2009. His academic pursuits culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemical Engineering from Rivers State University in 2020.
Dr. Izionworu’s professional qualifications are extensive. He became a COREN registered engineer in 2012 (Reg. No R.23,610) and is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Nigerian Institute of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), the Institute of Polymer Engineers (IPE), and the Pipeline Professionals Association of Nigeria (PLAN). Further honing his expertise in materials handling and procurement, he earned a Professional Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria in 2011 and holds certifications as an ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor and NDT Level II ASNT in various testing methods.
His dedication to safety and quality is further evidenced by his Professional Training and Proficiency Certification in Incidents/Accidents Investigation and Reporting. Dr. Izionworu has also enhanced his skills through short-term courses and training programs in project management and soft skills. Notably, he received specialized training in materials quality control during his tenure with Michelin in France from November 2006 to February 2007.
