The final day of ADIPEC has included the Future Leaders Programme which opened with a conversation between two global industry leaders on the lessons they had for the next generation. His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure in the UAE, emphasised that a successful leader was always learning: “The youth have technology at their fingertips and can access unlimited knowledge - learning stops only when your mind stops.”
“The ingredients of success are values. Values create professionalism and ultimately great nations. Everyone will have different opportunities depending on how much they believe in these values.“If you don't fail, you will not succeed. Be happy when you fail because you are learning something new. If you are improving, then you will be alright.
“You don’t have to solve challenges by yourself, look for teamwork. In the UAE, we are working towards a common goal, to make this country the best in the world. But to do this you cannot just think about this country or this region, but the entire world.”
His Excellency Haitham al-Ghais, Secretary General, @OPECSecretariat, said that leaders should always be open to new challenges: "Young people should say yes to any challenges. Being open-minded, accepting challenges, working abroad, learning new languages, as well as learning from other people, is key to learning and succeeding."
It is very important that you learn from everybody in the company, no matter of their level. I have learned so much from my young staff because they see the world differently. It’s a new perspective.
“You need passion, perseverance, and teamwork, and you will get there. Believe in yourself, believe in the cause. We must believe that the energy industry, which provides food and security around the world, is incredibly important to the world.”
Hosted by the ADNOC Group, ADIPEC is the world’s biggest and most influential gathering for energy industry professionals. The inclusive and apolitical platform facilitates dialogue between high-level industry stakeholders to help accelerate realistic solutions for a pro-climate and pro-growth energy transition.
Energy Transition
During the #ADIPEC2022 Leadership Roundtable on new business models of NOCs and IOCs, conversations centred around the efforts required to make decarbonisation a reality. Participants highlighted that energy companies would likely need to get involved more in delivering energy in addition to the resources side. The entire energy industry landscape must be more integrated to meet the energy transition challenge.
The invite-only Leadership Roundtables at #ADIPEC2022 are hosted at the exclusive Middle East Energy Club. Ministers, C-level industry executives and policymakers will explore new ideas and transformative thinking, shaping the energy sector.
In another panel section, Africa focus: creating a just, equitable and sustainable future is one of the most important challenges the world faces, especially in relation to African countries. The Honourable Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development for Uganda, addressed ADIPEC 2022 on this issue."
The energy transition will not be equal for everyone,” she said. “To use the analogy of travelling, Uganda is still trying to get a passport, while other countries already have their boarding pass."
The Minister added, “We are thinking of clean energy, but we also need to exploit our natural resources. To stop Uganda and Tanzania from constructing a pipeline which will benefit the people of East Africa is unrealistic, unjust and inconsiderate."
