Hensek Energy Limited has signed a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with NNPC’s Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) for an 85 mmcf/d gas processing plant in Ikot Abasi, in southern oil-rich Akwa Ibom. The gas investment milestone was achieved seven months after signing a similar gas deal with Highland LNG in Abeokuta.
Chief Executive Officer of Hensek Energy Limited, Engr. (Dr.) Uwem Stephen Okoko, FNSE, and the Managing Director of NGML signed the gas purchase landmark agreement on behalf of their respective Companies.
According to the engineering design scope, the proposed facility, a small-scale, integrated gas infrastructure facility, will process home-sourced natural gas feedstock into both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
NGML will leverage the offer to pipe natural gas to commercial customers mainly in the manufacturing industry and other commercial users close to the existing pipeline network, and channel natural gas from nearby rich gas deposits to the facility.
In a bold strategic move to unlock the full potential of natural gas utilization, industrialisation, economic diversification, and sustainable development in the South-South region, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and partners are initiating several gas plant projects in just three years, and have signed a $3.5 billion Gas Sales Purchase Agreement in Akwa Ibom.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Gas Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo in the first quarter of 2025 flagged off Guelph Gas Limited’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station in Ibesikpo, Akwa Ibom State, consolidating the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu administration's efforts to drive Nigeria’s gas revolution.
The three million standard cubic feet per day CNG mother station project in Ibesikpo aimed to supply natural gas via CNG to commercial and industrial customers in the South-South and South-Eastern parts of the country not currently connected to the country's gas pipeline network.
The Guelph Gas 3mmscf per day CNG Plant groundbreaking ceremony in Akwa Ibom came weeks after a similar event, the Nsik Oil and Gas’s 10MMSCF/D CNG Mother Station Facility in Uqua Isi Edoho, was performed by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo in Akwa Ibom.
Hensek Energy Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) deal is viewed as another major investment coming to a Niger Delta state and particularly to a community with a long history of contributing to Nigeria’s economic life wire and industrial energy sector.
The proposed plant is expected to add to the growing energy infrastructure in Ikot Abasi and create room for more economic activities around the project. It also strengthens the position of the local government as an important location for energy and industrial investments.
